Welcome To Associated Grant Makers’ Interactive Map of Philanthropic Activity (IMPACT)!
IMPACT is a dynamic and interactive web-based presentation of philanthropic activity that allows viewers to see and analyze grant related information by focus area, municipality and, in some cases, census tract – while comparing it to relevant and illustrative information taken from the 2010 census and the American Community Survey.
“Anyone can give whether it’s sweat equity or money. Hopefully more people see that they too can have an impact and make a difference.”
-Dick Donahue, Private Philanthropist
IMPACT was developed by AGM with the generous support of the Theodore Edison Parker Foundation, the Greater Lowell Community Foundation, and the services of the Institute for Visualization and Perception Research (IVPR) at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. IMPACT utilizes the Weave platform developed by IVPR. In this debut, we have focused IMPACT on the greater Merrimack Valley region of Massachusetts – a community of 36 municipalities rich in history and vital to the Massachusetts economy.
This site also includes detailed narrative profiles of some of the most important and prolific funders to the region. In addition, IMPACT: Merrimack Valley provides visual and statistical information on a variety of indicators in the areas of arts, community improvements, education, health, human services, and youth development.
IMPACT: Merrimack Valley features detailed information on 1,699 grants awarded between 2007 and 2009, totaling $69,290,399 and representing money from 499 grant makers to 272 organizations located throughout the region.
While AGM and its partners have highlighted a few key areas in this first release, IMPACT Merrimack Valley allows users to “view the maps” and explore. We hope that these resources will serve as a basis for further research and analysis, either independently or with assistance from AGM staff.
